The Natural Gas Generator Edge


An increasing number of domestic and commercial consumers now use the natural gas generator or propane generator. This could be attributed to the fact that both natural gas and propane have longer shelf lives and are safer to store. Generators are essential appliances not only to common households but also to commercial establishments. These ensure that normal business operations and household activities need not be disrupted in the event of a power failure or outage. Generators are basically categorized into two basic designs, standby and portable. Standby generators are the generators that are often hardwired into the electrical system of a residence or business establishment.

These appliances are capable of restoring power or providing temporary emergency power within twenty seconds of a power failure. When a power outage kicks in, these generators automatically start and run until power is restored. An automatic transfer switch is often installed with the use of a standby generator to facilitate switching from one power source to another. Most often, a standby generator is a natural gas generator or a liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) generator. These generators are often connected into an LPG or natural gas line so there is no need to refill fuel tanks regularly. Portable generators, on the other hand, are generally smaller in size and less costly compared to the standby systems. These generators are ideal for use in remote locations where there is no stable power supply. These have built-in tanks so they can be used anywhere they are needed.

Because of the increasing number of people who prefer to use natural gas, many portable generator models now run with natural gas. Basically, the natural type of gas generators use or consume natural gas to produce electricity to temporarily supply power to a commercial establishment or domestic household. Compared to coal generators, these gas generators are considered to be the more environment-friendly electrical system. While the latter may produce certain pollutants, these are not as many as compared to the pollutants from coal generators. The only advantage that coal has over natural gas is the fact that it is cheaper compared to it.

When compared to gasoline and diesel generators, these gas generators produce fewer pollutants, making them the more environment-friendly alternative. Gasoline, in particular, has been the dominant fuel source used in many applications for many years. But this may soon change drastically with the increasing environmental awareness of people. The use of biofuel and other alternative energy sources are now, in fact, being widely promoted. The natural type of gas generators are now slowly replacing diesel and gasoline generators, as they provide cleaner burning. Moreover, natural gas is seen to be safer to store and use because it is not as highly reactive as gasoline.

Compared to renewable fuel generators, these generators have the advantage as natural gas is more readily accessible compared to renewable energy sources like wind, water, and solar energy. Wind and solar power are also notorious for providing fluctuating power supply, as these are dependent on natural elements. Nevertheless, renewable power sources are more environment-friendly compared to natural gas.
